My Phi Kappa Phi: Free Money!

October 21, 2016

Welcome back to My Phi Kappa Phi - your monthly update for all things concerning the premier Honors Society at St. Norbert College. This time around we will be taking a closer look at the different ways that you can receive various ways you could potentially earn grants and awards by simply completing the corresponding online application for that grant or award! Here are the various options: Fellowships, Dissertation Fellowships, Study Abroad Grants, Love of Learning Awards, Literacy Grants, Phi Kappa Phi Scholar and Artist Awards, and The Ray Sylvester Distinguished Service Award. All of these opportunities provide a minimum award of $500 to the deserving student or students and some of them award up to $10,000! More info on the awards, their individual descriptions, and the deadlines for applying to each can be found here.

What’s that? You’re ready to start applying to all kinds of Phi Kappa Phi grants and awards already? Well, we unfortunately have to tell you that most of the applications are not available just yet. However, there is one that is open for applications right now: the Dissertation Fellowship! Even though you already took a look at the aforementioned link like the responsible person you are, here is a quick description of the Dissertation Fellowship award straight from the application page as a recap: “The Dissertation Fellowship is new to the Society and is intended to support doctoral candidates who are writing dissertations. Phi Kappa Phi awards ten Dissertation Fellowships of $10,000 per year. Applications and any supporting documents will be accepted from 10/1/2016 to 11:59 p.m. CT on 11/30/2016.”

So, let’s be honest- plenty of you reading this are likely not in the doctoral dissertation phase of your college career just yet, but it is never too early to start thinking about the time when you will be! When you are off at graduate school shuffling all kinds of responsibilities back and forth, remember that Phi Kappa Phi is always providing a plethora of grants and awards that can assist you. Also, keep in mind that applications for the Study Abroad Grant will open up on Thursday, December 15 (don’t worry- we’ll mention it again in the next issue!) Until next we meet, work hard, study even harder, and "let the love of learning rule humanity.”
