Welcome to the marvelous month of November and the next edition of My Phi Kappa Phi! Today, congratulations are in order- one of our St. Norbert students has been awarded with a Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant worth $1000! His name is Alex Gruber and he is the first St. Norbert student to be awarded this particular grant (and he’s only a junior!). Along with being the first floor RA of Michels Hall and being involved with multiple on campus groups, Alex’s passion for learning is clear to see as he is an excelling member of the Honors Program here at SNC. He plans to study abroad in Toledo, Spain through the University of Minnesota in conjunction with the Study Abroad Office here at SNC. Alex hopes that the experience will give him “the ability to be immersed in another culture” as well as ”the opportunity to easily become immersed in a variety of cultures.” He also plans to travel to all sorts of exciting areas in various countries such as Ireland, Germany, and more once he is in Europe!
When talking about the grant itself, Alex had plenty to discuss: first off, Alex recommends that everyone who qualifies to apply for this award should do so as soon as possible. The best part is, “you don’t even have to be a member of Phi Kappa Phi- I’m not!” Although Alex hopes to be a member of Phi Kappa Phi one day in order to continue the legacy of his siblings, he is completely correct- any St. Norbert College student who plans to study abroad in the future and has a GPA greater than 3.75 is welcome to apply for the Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant! According to Alex, the application “takes less than a handful of hours’ work and could result in receiving an award worth much more!”
In conclusion, NOW is the time to start looking into the wonderful opportunities that Phi Kappa Phi can offer to you- even if you’re not a member yet! Applications for the next Study Abroad Grant and any supporting documents will be accepted from 12/15/2016 to 11:59 p.m. CT on 2/15/2017, so don’t delay! If you are interested in applying for the grant or you have any lingering questions about the opportunity, you can email Stacey Wanta (firstname.lastname@example.org) in order to acquire more information. If you have been considering studying abroad but are still on the fence, here is one last quote from Alex that might just help you out: “I would recommend that everyone study abroad. Even if it isn’t for a whole semester, it is a great opportunity for people to broaden their worldviews.” The world is a big place, but we become all the brighter by exploring as much of it as we possibly can!
