Thanksgiving is quickly approaching and that means fun family, tantalizing turkey, and plenty of politics. I usually agree with my family on most subjects, but one that we have never seen eye to eye on is the question of how early people ought to start putting up decorations for the holidays that follow in December. In my opinion, people should wait until after Thanksgiving to begin hanging colorful lights and other ridiculous ornamentations in celebration of their jolly holidays. However, the opinion that matters most to me is yours, Gerty. So, my question for you is this: how early should people start celebrating the holiday season?

Dear modestly jolly St. Norbert student,
I understand your concern- the holidays can be a stressful time for everyone, no matter which holiday you celebrate! I, for one, had no idea that Thanksgiving was on the horizon- I had almost forgotten that we entered into the month of November with how warm the weather in De Pere has been lately! That being said, I believe it is NEVER too early to start your festive celebrations. My favorite thing to do during this time is to play the classic tune Jingle Bell Rock by Bobby Helms from my cassette player at home at full volume (after all, that’s the only way I can hear the music while I’m wearing my 12 wonderful pairs of earmuffs). However, it is important for you and your family to remember that even though you can start celebrating the holidays as early as you’d like to, the purpose of Thanksgiving is to come together as a family and be thankful for all the good things in your life- like the ability to celebrate the holidays as early as you want! I think we all can agree that the excitement for the holidays is no excuse for forgetting the most important holiday in November!
