Every single time the holidays start to draw near, I am never able to find a gift for every single person on my list! I go to doorbuster sales, I wait in long lines on Black Friday, I even stay up late to grab deals on Cyber Monday, but I never quite fulfill everyone’s wish list. Now that Finals are drawing ever near, I’m afraid that I won’t have enough time to wrap up all of my Christmas gift shopping (pun intended). Here is my question to you Gerty: what should I get for all of those people who are left on my Christmas gift list?

Dear procrastinating St. Norbert student,
Before I begin, always remember this- it’s not about what you get someone for Christmas, it’s about the sentiment behind your gift. That being said, diamonds are ALWAYS a girl’s best friend! However, if those sparkling gemstones are a bit outside of your price range, I recommend cooking up a batch of my good friend Shirley Savage’s famous butter cookies! Instructions are as follows:
1 Cup of butter (let it get soft)
4 Cups of flour (add flour last)
1 Cup of sugar
2 egg yolks (mixed)
2 whole eggs
2 Table spoons of milk
2 Tea spoons of vanilla
First, mix the softened butter with the sugar and the 2 whole eggs. Add the milk and vanilla and mix again.
Second, slowly add a cup of flour and mix. As you add each of the total 4 cups of flour, mix well.
Put the dough in the refrigerator overnight to cool.
Roll out the dough to a thickness of about ¼" and cut the cookies into your desired shape(s). Using a spoon, spread a little bit of the mixed egg yolks onto each of your cookies. You may need to use 1 or 2 more egg yolks depending on how many cookies you make!
Then sprinkle colored sugar onto the cookies.
Preheat oven to 350℉. Bake the cookies for approximately 15 minutes or until all cookies turn a golden-brown color on the bottom, (the baking time all depends on how thick your cookies are).
Let your cookies cool and enjoy!
