Emerging Leaders is dedicated to creating student leaders on campus, many of whom are honors students. Each year, many members of the Honors Program who apply are admitted into this leadership program, along with other first-year students from across St. Norbert College. Often, several honors graduates of the program even return as mentors in the years following their participation. The Emerging Leaders program provides students with leadership skills and connections that they will take with them throughout their entire college career and beyond.
The Emerging Leaders program engages students in a series of events that develop their leadership abilities throughout the fall semester. Around 30-40 first-year students from across campus, many of whom go on to lead student organizations later in their college career, participate in workshops throughout the semester. Topics include various aspects of leadership and program planning on campus, such as organizing events using on-campus resources at SNC. Additionally, the program kicks off with a retreat in which students are introduced to their upperclassmen mentors who will supervise and support them throughout the year. Often, mentors become both resources and friends to first-year students who may have questions about studying at the college as they acclimate to campus. At the retreat, Emerging Leaders also participate in team-building activities, learn leadership models, and begin planning a project. Afterward, members are responsible for teaming up with a student organization to complete this project, which is overseen by their mentor. The program culminates with a banquet to celebrate the successful completion of the program and distribute awards to recognize students for their outstanding contributions and leadership characteristics.
The Honors Program encourages its students to become a part of the program and continue its tradition of active student involvement and leadership within the St. Norbert College community.
