As a proud theatre fan, I am excited to be a part of the upcoming production of Almost, Maine by John Cariani.
For those that do not know, this play is a collection of short stories that take place simultaneously within 10 minutes in the small town of Almost, Maine. The production tackles the idea of new love blooming, old love dying, and overall captures what it means to be human.
I have enjoyed the past two months of rehearsal, and am excited to bring to life this heartfelt show. Balancing homework and theatre work has created some difficulties; however, I very much enjoy being able to act again. I was involved in the past two productions of The Tempest and Ghosts of Myself; however, for both of those productions I was involved backstage. For Almost, Maine, I am excited to be involved as a member of the cast.
To get another perspective, I asked my fellow actor and Honors Program member Ben Wylie about his experience with the show. Much like myself, Ben is another cast member in this production. Along with being involved in theatre, Ben
has also been juggling four classes and two jobs. Despite having a full schedule, Ben makes everything work since “the passion [he has] towards seeing a show like this come together really helps with finding the motivation to make it all fall into place.” Additionally, Ben enjoys his time working with Almost, Maine since “it's fun to dedicate time to something that relates to [his] major.”
Both of us have been working hard these past few months to memorize our lines and blocking so we can create a show that is both exciting and heartfelt.
Overall, this show is going to be a ton of fun for those in it, as well as those coming to watch it. Show dates are November 2nd, 3rd, 8th, 9th, and 10th at 7:30pm, and November 4th at 2pm. Hope to see you there to support our dedicated Honors students!
