Wondering what life is like for first year college students at SNC? Living with complete strangers far from home? Are there challenges, perks, or a little of both as members of the Honors Program?
We welcome two members of the class of 2023 who will be sharing their thoughts, experiences, and reflections about these topics and more throughout the upcoming year. Welcome to this year's first-year bloggers: Will and Brenna!
Hello! My full name is William Butak, but I go by Will. I was born in Eau Claire, WI and moved to Chippewa Falls, WI when I was four years old. My immediate family consists of my mom, my dad, my seventeen-year-old brother, Brady, and our pet cat. I attended Chippewa Falls High School where I played football, was a member of HOSA (Future Health Professionals), NHS, Sources of Strength, and other clubs and organizations. I had the opportunity to be a three-year starter at linebacker for my varsity football team and was named captain for my senior season. My main focus and accomplishment in HOSA was founding Run for Hope, a run/walk for suicide awareness. During my junior and senior years, I raised over $10,000 for suicide prevention in Chippewa County which has the second highest suicide rate in Wisconsin.
Some of my favorite hobbies include traveling, volunteering, spending time with everyone I have recently met here at SNC, football (though I am not playing here), and weightlifting.
Hi! My name is Brenna Cisler ! I am from New Franken, Wisconsin, which is a tiny country town about 30 minutes away from St. Norbert College. I have a younger brother, who is currently a senior in high school, named Colten, and my family and I have four dogs, two horses, and four outside cats. Some fun facts about me: my hair is four feet long and reaches my knees, I have run four half marathons, and I was homeschooled from 6th grade to my senior year of high school.
During school, I was involved in a few clubs and organizations. I competed in Cross Country in middle school and in my junior and senior years of high school. I also competed in Track for three years in high school and am now on the St. Norbert College Cross-Country and Track teams. I was a member of GBACH (Green Bay Area Christian Homeschoolers) -- an organization that put on bimonthly events such as get-togethers, field trips, and dances -- for six years. I joined FBLA and Destination Imagination in my junior year of high school. I took piano, guitar, and voice lessons various years and was accepted into two different nursing summer camps before my junior and senior years. I acquired 60 hours of community service in my junior and senior years and won the Bellin Titletown Wellness Race Series for the 19 and under age category in 2014, 2015, and 2016.
